Privacy policy
Last updated 26 October 2026
Mulga Maps is published by Lanterra, in Western Australia. This policy covers the Mulga Maps Android app, this website (mulgamaps.com) and the publisher portal (publish.mulgamaps.app). Questions: [email protected].
The short version
- The app works without an account. Your maps, points, tracks, shapes, notes and photos stay on your device unless you choose to share, publish, export or sync them.
- Your location is used on your device to show where you are and to record tracks. We do not receive it.
- The app has no advertising and no third-party analytics.
- We do not sell personal information.
What stays on your device
Maps you import, and the points, tracks, shapes, attribute fields, notes and photos you record, are stored on your device. We do not receive them. They leave your device only when you export them, share them, publish a map, or turn on a sync or backup feature such as a folder you choose.
Location
The app asks for precise and approximate location so it can show your position on a map, record tracks and points, follow a saved track and give geofence alerts. If you start recording a track, the app keeps recording with the screen off using an Android foreground service, which shows a notification while it runs. The app does not request background location access. Your location is processed on your device and is not sent to us.
If you connect an external GNSS receiver over Bluetooth, the app uses Bluetooth permissions to find and connect to it. If you use NTRIP corrections, your position may be sent to the NTRIP service you choose, as NTRIP services typically require. That service has its own privacy policy.
Camera and photos
The camera is used to take photos that you attach to features, and to scan QR codes. QR codes are read on your device using Google's on-device barcode scanning component. Photos you take stay on your device unless you export or share them.
Other permissions
The app also uses notifications (tracking status and geofence alerts), vibration, and the ability to keep the device awake while you work. It uses the internet to download maps from addresses you choose, to browse and download maps from Explore Maps, to send help messages, and for NTRIP corrections if you use them.
Help and contact messages
If you use the help form in the app or the contact form on this website, we receive the details you enter (name, email address and message). The app's help form also sends the category you pick, the app version, the app mode and plan, your device model, your Android version and your language. These are stored in our database on Cloudflare, and a notification email is sent to us through Resend. We use them only to reply to you and to fix problems. We keep them only as long as needed for that, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Publisher portal
The portal has no passwords. You sign in with a code or link sent to your email address, so we store your email address. Publishers (organisations and people) can have owners and editors. Files you upload are stored with us on Cloudflare, and links you add are checked regularly to confirm they still work. First-time publishers are reviewed by us before maps go live. Maps you publish are available to anyone with access, depending on whether you set them to public, unlisted (link or QR code only) or private with an access code. People can browse and download from Explore Maps without an account, and can report a map.
If you connect your Dropbox account to sync maps, the portal uses that connection to bring in the maps you choose. You can disconnect it at any time.
Crash reports (optional, off by default)
Some builds of the app can send anonymous crash reports to Sentry, but only if you switch on Settings > This device > Send crash reports. They contain the error type, a technical trace of which code was running, the app version, Android version, app mode and language. File paths, coordinates, email addresses and web addresses are removed first. They do not include your maps, points, tracks, shapes, notes, photos, name or device identifiers.
Advertising and analytics
The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics. This website and the portal run on Cloudflare, which processes requests and may keep standard technical logs, such as IP address and the page requested, for security and performance.
Payments
The free plan needs no account and no payment. When Pro subscriptions are offered, they are handled by Google Play, and we do not receive your payment card details.
Who we share data with
We do not sell personal information. We use these providers to run the service: Cloudflare (hosting, storage and database), Resend (sending email), Sentry (only if you turn on crash reports) and Dropbox (only if you connect it). If you open or download a map from a web address or catalogue, that server's operator receives your request and has its own privacy policy.
Children
Mulga Maps is a field mapping tool and is not directed at children.
Your choices and deleting your data
To remove data stored on your device, delete it in the app or uninstall the app. To ask us to delete data we hold, such as help messages or your portal sign-in email and publisher details, email [email protected] from the address concerned, with the subject Delete my data. You can also ask what we hold about you. Maps you have published can be removed by you in the portal or by asking us.
Security
Connections to our website, portal and servers use HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
